“The Amulet of Lovers” (Novel)

“The Amulet of Lovers” is a novel where the writer moves between different eras in rapid time travels, from ancient Egypt with the Pharaonic Ara to contemporary Cairo, and from Mount Lebanon in the 1960s with Mary to the story of her grandmother Annie in early 20th century Azerbaijan, passing through what happened to Rahma in Baghdad, and Shams Al-Sabah in Seville and Fez. Between the past, present, and future, war looms, while love and art dominate the lives of the novel’s heroines in an eternal struggle. Each of them moves on her own path and journey from one city to another, where destinies and fates are reflected in the mirrors of memory. “Zeina,” coming from the future, seeks an unknown calling to reclaim a lost past that she senses but cannot comprehend. The novel also presents hints of the future, with all its fears regarding the relationship between humans and technology, and the risks it carries of diminishing the presence of human emotions in favor of machines.
