Under Study (Novel)

The novel “Under Study” explores the significance of “identity” and its impact on the lives of individuals who have been deprived of it. Spanning three generations of the Al Abdullah family, the novel presents a tale of estrangement and fragmentation. It begins with the father, Bassam, a militant who fell prey to the allure of departure, leaving his family behind. The story continues with Hassan, the son, whose fate takes a mysterious and tragic turn. The protagonist, Leila, embarks on a journey of resistance, defying a challenging reality that leaves women to face their destinies alone. This journey starts with her grandmother, Saad, and continues with her daughter, Najwa, and her grandchildren. As for Yasmin, she chooses an enchanting and glamorous world that she cannot resist.

The author narrates intertwined stories across different worlds, from Beirut in the 1970s to the eruption of war in Syria and its lasting impact on the characters of this novel.
