Eastern Illusions – Short Stories

The stories in the collection “Eastern Illusions” depict a lost city and the suffering of women in search of existence under the sun, in a crumbling and lost world. These are the tragic stories of the Lebanese civil war, with its catastrophic consequences paid for by women, as is the case in every war. The author captures the emptiness of the lives of her story’s heroines, real women who aspire to learn, to be liberated, to work, and to choose partners who do not place barriers in their paths and deprive them of their rightful freedom. These are educated women who pay a heavy price, or semi-educated women, not due to any fault of their own, but due to the harshness of life’s circumstances. Life, as depicted in this collection, is nothing more than shattered mirrors, and the truths within it are incredibly amusing. Likewise, the names of the protagonists do not match their meanings. It is a game of circles, where each circle leads to another circle.
